Portamaceta "or Gaiata?

Dear Readers.

"... Today we can walk through the streets of the city and enjoy a beautiful city, breathing new culture and marveling at works of art ..." These were some of the words he spoke last Friday February 18 our mayor, Mr. D. Alberto Fabra Part, in the opening ceremony of the sculpture entitled "Fire" author D. Jacinto Dominguez Luna, resident of our city and draftsman by profession, which is located at the roundabout intersection of Avenida de Valencia, Avenida de Burriana.

It's funny how some men in a clear example of verbal incontinence and political demagoguery, can be so wrong its aesthetic perception, and also with reckless daring intellectual lightweight to assess and differentiate, the beauty of ugliness, culture the pseudo-culture, the value of authentic popular, populist bad taste, making noted more evidence of wrong assessment, when the speaker has no, or very little knowledge of the subject, as to see so great mistake, we just have to walk the streets of Castellon, to realize the aesthetic aberration that exists in this so-called policy "beautification" of our city, where we found some real "blobs" (often the same author) that little or nothing to do, not with the high and worship, or the environment where it was located, work, perhaps if the election had been due to a serious study of urban design by professionals, not the incompetent capricious and uninformed opinion of officials or politicians of the day they so choose and assign, this does not happen, but nevertheless, we pay attention to what they say he who bears the greater responsibility for management within the community of people with always hope that something may change someday, but once again, heard the speech protocol of our lord mayor, come to mind illustrators words someone once said ... "Wise men talk because they have something to say. Politicians talk because they have to say something, but anyway, this would be a topic for another article.

Speaking of sculpture "Fire" Jacinto Dominguez, who is the subject at hand in this article, I have to confess that when I went to see the place, but with visible technical errors, such as footprints left by the use of radio and thick welds that are detrimental to the finish quality, this it was very nice in its natural rust color. There is no denying that Jacinto knows the material, but not enough to cover up the mistakes that do not escape the eye of the expert. Still, the fact is that we face a sculpture that reaches a height of approximately 8 by 5 meters in diameter, these values \u200b\u200bcontained in a weight of 5.2 tons, made of iron sheets 6mm thick by 750 mm wide which gives a certain visual lightness, and a decorative symmetry that adorns the built environment. But a beautiful color is not sufficient merit to speak of a good novel, much less to be proud of the work done, and it is in this sense, I want to do my work ethic.

As I have investigated the design of the sculpture 'Fire', arises from the author held in medium format (author and work in the picture) and was exhibited together with other (also metal) in an exhibition at the Municipal Cultural Centre of January 21, 2010 and since then, the author conceived as a representation or symbol of a flame.

I think the change of scale and visual counterweights, did not benefit from the monumental piece is now on display in the rotunda, as its current composition and rhythm errors are evident, highlighting the lack of rigor and knowledge of the author in this respect, since the rigidified to the point that more than a fire, (element characterized by its asymmetry and dynamism of lines) this piece could well serve as a rusty tribute to the "Gaiata" (something Castellon otherwise) or a monumental support for clay pots on a heroic scale, of which we referenced in the gardening section of stores or DIY stores. However, this lack of movement, improper object represented (the fire) was not in the medium-format sculpture exhibited Jacinto Municipal Center of Culture of Antonio Maura Street in January 2010, which brought more dynamism and compositional control . I think the fear that the iron sheets 6mm thick for 750 mm wide are "separated", forced the inexperienced sculptor, to use a preventive measure or very basic solution, placing a kind of belt on the lower piece into something hard, really naive and worthless composition whatsoever. Not having the necessary knowledge (both theoretical and practical) and the experience they bring years of dedication to the specialty, nor is it truly an expert in the volume, in this case a sculptor, these episodes tend to occur regrettable, frankly unfortunate that before a rigorous testing and professional evaluation of the proposal, which was born as "sculpture" monumental, is simply a large nondescript object that does not pass approved.

want to go concluding this article, illustrated with a valuable example of a professional job of Ricardo Ugarte sculptor, painter, printmaker, photographer and writer belonging to the Basque School of Sculpture with Jorge Oteiza and Eduardo Chillida, among others, and oddly named: "The flapping of fire" (last three images) . As you can see in this magnificent work of great dynamism of the famous Basque sculptor, imagine and feel with great emotion, to the warmth of their asymmetric flames, which unfortunately, is far lighter fire that proposes Mr. Jacinto Dominguez.

And is that as in any trade or profession, there are rules to respect, to acquire knowledge and skill to develop. Lying up a draftsman and sculptor is very difficult, much more when try to do something as big as this unique "fire" that he proposes Jacinto Dominguez outcrops without reservation, the authentic and real needs that have the author in this artistic discipline. Because that is something that even if we want garnish with kind and enthusiastic words, politically correct, as our mayor delivered his inauguration day, we can not deny or conceal the truth, because good will always be the tinsmith to make pots Copper and oilers, but their knowledge is limited, for most ambitious and monumental projects that require more training him.

And meanwhile I wonder ... What Mayor opened the roundabout Avenue Valencia, Avenida de Burriana, a "Fire", a "Portamaceta" or "Gaiata" iron?

to the next installment
